The Freedom Walk honors Booker T. Washington's walk to freedom through education. He walked over 500 miles from Malden, WV to Hampton, VA and this is the reason the Friends walks today.
Walks at the Park to be held in 2026 to be determined at a later date. There will be some form of healthy information incorporated into the Walk at the Park events.
We look forward to seeing you there!

5th Annual Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument
FREEDOM WALK
COME ONE, COME ALL!!!
First on behalf of the Friends of Booker T. Washington National Monument we would like to thank you for your participation in the 5th annual Freedom Walk ! We were able to raise over $4,500 thanks to your awesome generosity.
Your support allows us to help Franklin County High students to pursue their dreams in their desired fields of study. It's not just dollars but it provides an opportunity for a student to believe in their potential.
We will continue to host the Freedom Walk every year to not only honor the legacy of Dr. Washington but also because we desire to see the next generation of leaders take us far beyond our expectations.
How do I to participate in the Freedom Walk?
- Register as an individual OR
- Register as a team (you do not have to attend the walks at the park to participate)
- If you walk as a team, you can collect donations from other team members to support your honorary walk of 500 miles of at least $1 per mile.
- Teams can consist of family members and/or friends, colleagues, church members, members of organizations you may be a member of, etc.
